Service overview
Where Mini-Splits Make Sense in Hermitage
The rooms ducts never reached: garage conversions turned into home offices, additions off the back of a 70s ranch, sunrooms that bake in July. Hermitage has plenty of them, from the 1970s townhomes around Lake Chateau and Fox Run to newer builds in Wembley Park adding flex space. Where new ductwork costs more than it's worth, a mini-split head on the wall solves the room without touching the central system.
Middle TN's mild winters make the heating side work too. Heat-pump mini-splits carry most of the heating load comfortably, and one outdoor unit can run several heads, each with its own thermostat, which is the whole point of multi-zone. We service Hvac Repair Pro mini-split calls across Tulip Grove and the Stones River side of town, and the two complaints repeat: water dripping from a head (clogged drain, almost always) and a head that quit cooling (refrigerant or an error code). Because humidity never takes a season off, yearly mini-split maintenance keeps drains clear and heads clean. For the system basics, Daikin's guide to ductless mini-split systems is a solid primer, and our heating and furnace team handles whole-home heat-pump questions when a mini-split isn't the right answer.
The service timeline
From Diagnosis to Done
The process flexes to the condition, but these checkpoints keep decisions clear.
Consultation
We talk through what's wrong, per head and per zone, and check error codes before we roll a truck.
Inspection
Heads, line sets, outdoor unit, drains, and electrical. Mini-splits hide their problems in the details.
Diagnosis and Estimate
What's failing, what it costs, and whether repair or replacement makes sense for the zone count.
Repair Execution
Leak repairs get nitrogen-tested, line-set work gets vacuumed and pressure-checked, boards and fans get swapped.
Zone-by-Zone Testing
Every head tested in cooling and heating before we leave. Multi-zone means no zone gets skipped.
Tools & methods
Mini-Split-Specific Gear
Purpose-built equipment, used by trained technicians, so the job is done accurately the first time.
Manifold Gauges
Mini-split service ports are smaller and fussier. The right fittings matter.
Nitrogen and Vacuum Pump
Line-set work gets pressure-tested with nitrogen and evacuated before refrigerant goes in.
Coil-Safe Cleaners
Head coils are delicate. The wrong chemical bends fins and kills airflow.
Drain-Line Tools
Mini-split drains clog like everything else in our humidity. Cleared and tested, not just poked.
Use cases
Rooms Ducts Never Reached
The reason most mini-splits exist in Hermitage, and the failures we fix on them.

The Leaking Head
Water staining the wall under a head is the number-one mini-split call. Algae in the drain line, cleared and flushed, filters washed, and the stain dried out. Yearly drain attention prevents the repeat.
The Boxed-In Unit
Cabinetry built tight around a head left zero service clearance. We re-hung the head with proper clearances so future maintenance is actually possible. Placement is half the install.
Problems we solve
Mini-Split Problems We Fix
Small heads, specific failures. We know both.
Water leaking from the head
Clogged condensate drains are the usual cause. We clear, flush, and test the line.
One head not cooling
Refrigerant, error codes, or a failed component in that zone. Diagnosed per head.
Musty smells from the head
Mold on the blower wheel in our humidity. Cleaned properly with coil-safe products.
Pricing process
What Mini-Split Work Typically Costs
$180 - $450 depending on scope
Single vs. multi-zone
More heads mean more inspection time and more places for trouble. We quote the whole system, not per head.
Parts involved
A drain clearing and a control board are very different jobs. The diagnosis comes before the price.
Install scope
New installs are quoted per room with a load calculation, so you're paying for the right size, not a guess.
What to expect
What to Expect When You Book
The call
A live dispatcher takes your symptoms per head and per zone, checks error codes with you, and books a same-day window.
Upfront options
The tech inspects every zone, shows you what's failing, and prices repair versus replacement when the zone count makes it a question.
Every zone tested
Each head gets tested in cooling and heating before we leave. Multi-zone means no zone gets skipped.
Are ductless mini-splits worth it?
For the right room, yes. They're the practical answer for additions, garage conversions, sunrooms, and older homes where new ductwork costs more than it's worth. They're not automatically cheaper than replacing a central system, so we quote both when it matters.
Do I need a mini-split head in every room?
Not always. One outdoor unit can run multiple heads, and open floor plans often share a head across spaces. We size each room with a load calculation rather than guessing.
Can a mini-split heat my home in a Tennessee winter?
Yes, for most of it. Heat-pump mini-splits handle Middle TN's mild winters well; output drops in extreme cold and the unit defrosts periodically. In ice storms, backup heat or a second source is smart.
Why is my mini-split leaking water inside?
Usually a clogged condensate drain, algae grows fast in our humidity, or dirty filters causing freeze-thaw. Sometimes it's a kinked line set or low refrigerant. Turn it off and call; water and electronics don't mix.
Can I install a mini-split myself?
Only the pre-charged DIY kits, and even those need careful placement and electrical work. Standard systems need a pro: vacuum pump, refrigerant lines, pressure testing, and commissioning. The boxed-in installs we get called to fix are usually DIY placements with zero service clearance.
